For 28 years, Dr. Donald Meichenbaum has served as the Research Director of The Melissa Institute, steering its educational and training initiatives across South Florida, the nation, and the globe. Over the past several years, the Institute’s shift to virtual platforms has allowed Don to extend the Institute's reach to mental health professionals and educators globally with lectures and courses on cognitive behavior therapy, trauma, resilience, and violence prevention. Furthermore, Dr. Meichenbaum has made his book, "Roadmap to Resilience," accessible for FREE, resulting in over 48,000 downloads from individuals in 138 countries.
In recent years, Dr. Meichenbaum’s training initiatives have spanned across Australia, Canada, China, England, Romania, and the U.S., leading to the creation of a "Legacy Course" dedicated to his extensive work in psychotherapy, resilience, and violence prevention. The primary aim of this program is to increase the likelihood that participants will further develop their level of expertise and become part of an elite “group of 25% of psychotherapists” who get better outcomes with their patients. The other goal is to challenge participants to consider the trans-theoretical behavior change principles that are common across various psychotherapeutic approaches and how to implement the Core Tasks of Psychotherapy. Along the way, they will learn how to spot hype in the field of psychotherapy and become a more critical consumer of psychotherapies and information in the field as a whole.
Dear Colleague,
Two months ago, my heart stopped for 14 minutes. I am presently home from rehab making a slow recovery. Right before this cardiac arrest, I had completed two LEGACY courses of all the clinical experience and research I have conducted over 50 years. A kind of premonition of what was about to happen. I am taking the liberty of sharing these two LEGACY courses and included below are also three recent presentations that you may find of interest. Please feel free to share this webpage with others. All the proceeds from these courses will go to the Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention and Treatment, in memory of my beloved wife Marianne. Thank you for considering this request.

“I want to offer my sincere, heartfelt gratitude for the incredible work you’ve done through your Legacy Course. The course has been both inspiring and highly effective in shaping my clinical practice, providing me with invaluable tools to help my clients build resilience and navigate trauma. The case conceptualization module is truly amazing, and the art of questioning module has completely transformed the way I approach my work with clients. Over the past two months, I’ve reviewed all the modules again and again and completed the assigned tasks. I’ve found the handouts and exercises to be extremely helpful in enhancing my skills. Thank you again for your invaluable guidance and for the profound impact your work has had on my practice. You were my unofficial mentor throughout graduate school (through a wonderful CD course I had discovered in our school library) and I am forever grateful to have found my way back to your wisdom at this point in my career.”
Dr. Meichenbaum has graciously arranged for all proceeds from his Legacy course to be donated to the Melissa Institute in memory of his wife of 58 years, Marianne Meichenbaum.
